Apologies for the delay..
Happy Halloween all! I hope each of you are having a great last day of October. I regretfully had my own backlog of sorts to work through and unfortunately had a delay in my weekly updates. Don’t worry though subscribers! I’m passionate about Weeklyfix’s mission to provide positivity to the industry and have coordinated time to ensure this flows smoothly going forward. That being said, let’s sail right into the news as there’s much to discuss! News coverage has continued to be inclusive of the current impacts caused by ocean freight constraints and the importance the mode plays in our global economy. To bring a bit of light to this issue, I’d like to point out a couple positive outcomes from the convoluted world of ocean freight:
Infrastructure Review - Our current US supply chain infrastructure needed investment and review, with the additional visibility it’s now obtaining leadership reviews and much needed investment. This will be great for our future. You can find additional insight here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/28/us/politics/california-ports-supply-chain.html
Early Holiday Shopping - There’s been a large outpour of communication with notable guidance to start your holiday shopping earlier this year. It’s been reported that 61% of Americas planned to start their holiday shopping this month, that’s 10% higher than last year. This may be the push we all need to get our holiday shopping done earlier and avoid any last minute out of stock scuffles. We’ve started to even seen retailers start to off holiday pricing earlier to help consumers planning earlier, I’ve seen both Amazon and Target start their holiday pricing. On October 10th, Target even launched their holiday price match guarantee which enables customers to get a price match if the Target purchase drops in price between then and Dec. 24. So if you can, go get that shopping done early this year and grab yourself something too while you’re at it :)
